Job description

Diesel Mechanic

Thrift Trucking in Champaign, IL is seeking an experienced diesel mechanic. We operate a medium sized fleet of primarily International and Freightliner tractors. We also maintain a solid inventory of 53’ dry van swing door trailers. Our Champaign, IL freight terminal has indoor bays to perform work on tractors and trailers.
Ideal candidates should have familiarity with Detroit diesel engines. Cummins diesel engine experience and ASE diesel certification is also an asset. Ideal candidate should also have the certifications to be able to perform DOT annual inspections on tractors and trailers.
This position is geared towards preventative and routine maintenance service on our equipment. We do not perform any major engine or transmission overhaul service in house.
JOB DUTIES:
  • Perform scheduled routine maintenance on tractors and trailers.
  • Evaluate and R amp;R parts as required to effect repairs on defective equipment.
  • Troubleshoot engine performance problems, make recommendations for repair and create estimates based on proper diagnosis, repair, or replacement.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintain parts inventory and cleanliness in the warehouse repair area.
  • Maintain accurate records of each repair performed on equipment.
  • Able to work independently and focus on safety and time deadlines.
This is a full-time hourly position with company benefits. We make health, dental and vision insurance available after 90 days. Hours are M-F and start times can be flexible.
