Facilities Security Specialist - Defense

Location: Rome, New York (On-site)

Our client, an established engineering and technology company supporting U.S. Government and Department of Defense programs, is seeking a Facilities Security Specialist to support its security program. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with government security regulations while supporting personnel, facility, information, and systems security across multiple programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support the company's industrial security program in compliance with federal security regulations.
  • Process and maintain personnel security clearances, including onboarding, investigations, briefings, and debriefings.
  • Maintain security records, databases, and documentation.
  • Conduct employee security training and awareness briefings.
  • Assist with contract security requirements and implementation of customer security guidance.
  • Investigate and document security incidents or violations.
  • Support government security reviews, audits, and internal self-inspections.
  • Ensure proper safeguarding and handling of classified information and controlled unclassified information.
  • Partner with Information Systems Security personnel to support cybersecurity compliance and security best practices.
  • Assist with security-related activities at satellite locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience supporting industrial, facility, or government security programs within a defense contractor or government environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating with Information Systems Security teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • Security+ certification or the ability to obtain.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and related federal security requirements.
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST cybersecurity standards.
  • Experience supporting both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Previous experience as an FSO, AFSO, ISSM, or in a similar industrial security role is highly desirable.
  • Active Security Clearance a plus
