Industrial Mechanic Trainee

Sampling Associates International

Newport News Operation

$21 - $25 per hour

Sampling Associates International, a bulk material sampling services company based in Hampton, VA, with multiple US and international operations, is offering an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Industrial Mechanic at our coal export terminal operation in Newport News.

The ideal candidate must have basic mechanical skills with a minimum of one year of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. Must be able to follow directions and work in a safe efficient manner. Excellent customer service skills are also required.

Below is a description of the minimum skills and responsibilities needed for this position. These are not listed in any order of importance or demand:

  1. Perform all tasks and responsibilities in a safe, efficient, organized, and professional manner.
  2. Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
  3. Collect and discard, in proper receptacles per Site requirements, worn machine parts and other refuse in order to properly maintain machinery and work areas.
  4. Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  5. Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, schematic diagrams, and verbal direction.
  6. Start machines and observe mechanical operation, to determine efficiency and to detect problems, with the aid of an Assistant Mechanic or Mechanic who is indirect observation of the work or is providing verbal instruction by telephone.
  7. Inventory and requisition of machine parts, equipment, and other supplies so that stock can be maintained and replenished.
  8. Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment according to specified procedures.
  9. Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  10. Ability to meet company policies in safety, employee behavior, attendance, and drug, alcohol, criminal, and motor vehicle record checks.
  11. Must have and maintain a valid US state driver's license.
  12. Minimum education requirement of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  13. Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Excel for the purpose of data-entry.
