About the Role

The Village of Oak Park is seeking an experienced, hands-on leader to serve as its next Water & Sewer Superintendent. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Superintendent provides day-to-day leadership of a Division of approximately 14 staff, including two Division Supervisors and 12 frontline personnel. The position directs the operations and maintenance of the municipal water pumping, storage, and distribution systems, as well as the sanitary and storm sewer collection systems, and carries broad operational, regulatory, and personnel responsibility, including after-hours emergency response.


Key Responsibilities

▪     Lead and manage the Water & Sewer Division in a unionized environment.

▪     Direct operation and maintenance of the Village's water pumping, storage, distribution, and sewer collection systems, including water main break response and repair.

▪     Ensure compliance with all USEPA, IEPA, and local sampling and reporting requirements.

▪     Oversee the Village's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and non-revenue water programs.

▪     Prepare and administer the Division's budget in partnership with the Director of Public Works.

▪     Serve as a key point of contact for residents, businesses, and stakeholders on service requests and water quality.


Qualifications

Required

▪     Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible supervisory or management experience in a public-sector water and/or sewer department.

▪     Possession of a Class “C” Illinois Water Operator's License.

▪     Demonstrated ability to manage effectively in a union environment.


Preferred

▪     Bachelor's degree in public administration, business management, civil or environmental engineering, or a related field.

▪     Class “B” Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

▪     Experience with AMI systems, customer-facing utility portals, and non-revenue water programs.


Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary of $98,126 – $142,283 (Grade 9), with an anticipated hiring range of $98,126 – $120,204.50 DOQ.
