Position Overview

A growing civil engineering and surveying firm in the Columbus, Ohio area is seeking a Traffic/Transportation Engineer to join its team. This position will support a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects, including traffic impact studies, traffic signal design, signage and pavement marking plans, traffic control, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans.

The ideal candidate will have a background in civil engineering and transportation planning, strong analytical skills, and an interest in developing their technical expertise while working toward professional licensure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Traffic Access and Traffic Impact Studies in accordance with local and state standards.
  • Design and draft 2D and 3D traffic plans using appropriate engineering software.
  • Develop traffic signal plans, signage plans, and pavement marking plans.
  • Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and traffic control phasing plans.
  • Perform signal optimization and develop signal timing plans.
  • Analyze transportation systems and traffic conditions.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of traffic management strategies.
  • Coordinate with project teams, clients, municipalities, and other stakeholders.
  • Support project schedules, documentation, and deliverables.
  • Apply applicable federal, state, and local transportation standards and regulations.
  • Participate in field reviews, data collection, and project-related site visits as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Understanding of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT with the ability and desire to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience using GIS and mapping technologies.
  • Experience with traffic analysis and modeling software such as:
