Job description

The primary focus of this Trading Analyst role is to execute daily trading of exchange-based power contracts on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) using established guidelines and strategies. You will collaborate with team members to enhance existing trading strategies and spearhead quantitative modeling projects. This is a hybrid trader/data science position. Success in this role requires synthesizing large volumes of information to make rapid, data-driven decisions while remaining agile as market conditions shift. This position requires reliable coverage of trading duties during active exchange hours.

Based in our Alexandria, Virginia office, this role features a hybrid work schedule. Remote work is optional on Mondays and Fridays, while in-office attendance is mandatory on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Typical Hours for this position will be 9 AM - 6 PM Eastern.
Requirements
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary trader on the ICE terminal, buying and selling power contracts in accordance with approved risk limits and strategic frameworks.
  • Monitor market trends and power grid fundamentals to provide actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain custom SQL queries for robust data analysis.
  • Design and implement quantitative modeling frameworks to enhance decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other members of the exchange trading team to investigate possible improvements to existing strategies, optimize trading processes, and explore and develop new strategies.
  • Collaborate with our software engineering team to create production-grade systems to support our trading efforts.
  • Maintain clear, effective verbal and written communication across teams.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Analytical problem solver with proficiency in Excel.
  • Proficiency in R and SQL.
  • Working knowledge of statistical modeling methods (e.g., Linear Regression, Tree-Based Models).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Grafana, Tableau, PowerBI) is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated comfort with numerical analysis and high-stakes risk/reward decision-making.
  • A collaborative team player with a resilient, competitive, and curious mindset.
