Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at 678 South Jason, Denver, CO.This position's work schedule will be Sunday 5:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March - November; and 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in Off-Season (approximately December - February).

Who We Are & What You'll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking an Athletic Fields Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled trades work for the construction, maintenance, and repair of City-wide athletic fields. This position supports the repairing and renovations of all athletic fields and sports complexes throughout Denver to provide safe playing surfaces for all users. This position will keep athletic fields in pristine condition to facilitate sports programming throughout Denver's communities and to ensure that athletes can compete on a safe and playable surface.

The Athletic Fields Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that athletic fields are in top quality condition, making competitive sports programming as well as casual enjoyment of these spaces possible.

Specifically, as Athletic Fields Maintenance Technician you will:

  • Prepare the fields which will include dragging the infield, chalking the field according to specified dimensions, watering infield, and setting bases

  • Perform field maintenance including filling infield holes, adding clay to infield when necessary, and inspecting the ball fields for proper safety

  • Utilize independent judgment in performing grounds maintenance activities

  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions

  • Be responsible for installing and weekly painting of athletic fields

  • Ensure proper drainage or shoring up spots on the grass where there is uneven wear and tear

  • Attention to detail and communication are responsibilities of this role

  • Perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks such as bending, lifting, and shoveling. Good physical fitness is important to completing these tasks in a satisfactory manner

  • Complete field preparation list on Sundays in season

  • Perform snow removal duties as needed

  • Knowledge of landscaping maintenance

  • Licensure or certification in Turf Management

  • Basic knowledge of use of mobile devices and computers

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate

  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience as a skilled trades helper or semi-skilled laborer performing a variety of duties requiring construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance skills

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements

  • Licensure: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
