GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY

The Intern will assist the Office of Construction Codes which is responsible for promulgating and maintaining the current Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes for construction and State Amendments. This program provides technical code assistance to local city and county governments, building and fire officials, architects and engineers, commercial contractors and homebuilders, construction industry and trades representatives and the general public.

The Intern will be responsible for performing and coordinating various administrative functions, such as preparing, analyzing, storing, retrieving, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files and disseminating technical information by using the telephone, mail services, websites, and e-mail. The Intern will also be assigned other projects and duties as needed. The position will be located in the North Druid Hills Office of the Department of Community Affairs and will be funded for a limited time period of 6 months.

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants that have already completed a Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., architecture, engineering, economics, business, accounting, political science or public administration)

Student applicants must have completed 2 or more years from an accredited college or university in a relevant area of study

Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, etc.)

All applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale at the time of application, self-motivated, ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines with limited supervision Keen attention to detail, ability to multitask, analyze and resolve specific problems Willingness to work effectively in a team environment Good verbal and written communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL,HOURS,ENVIRONMENT)

This position is part time in office (24 hours per week) and may occasionally require more. Local periodic travel may be required.

PHYSICAL / SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Work is principally stationary, but the person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., and constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Must be able to perform office-related duties.

Must be able to operate office equipment.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and community agencies and other entities that provide services.
