TRADER FIXED INCOME SENIOR
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Performs wholesale buying and selling of taxable and tax-exempt fixed income debt instruments in a Bank broker/dealer platform, sourcing bonds for the retail and institutional clients of RBC Securities while adhering to best-execution standards, internal policies, regulatory obligations and established Bank and RBC trading limits. This position works closely with and supports the RBCS Head Trader and Trader Fixed Income II and must be capable of performing all functions for taxable and tax-exempt trading in the absence of the RBCS Head Trader and the Trader Fixed Income II. Makes a market and manages trading position, maintaining an inventory through timely buying and selling of securities that will be attractive to RBCS' clients. Manages inventory positions and applies risk management to mitigate losses on positions held for expected client demand. Gathers trade detail, news, and information from other market makers to establish yield levels and prices (on a current basis) for all securities held in inventory. Advises sales staff and management of pertinent market and economic information and its anticipated effects upon the market.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
  • Perform wholesale purchasing and selling of all taxable securities for the RBCS Trading Account. Contact various broker/dealers to buy and sell securities at the most competitive prices to secure a profit. Execute and completes orders involving commitments for the Trading Account, adhering to Bank underwriting and trading policies.
  • Make a market and manage a trading position, maintaining a marketable inventory through timely buying and selling of taxable securities.
  • Place commercial paper orders with direct issuers. Secure corporate bond offerings to fit client needs.
  • Gather rates and news information, call other market makers and follow pricing services such as Bloomberg, to establish yield levels and prices (on a current basis) for all securities in the taxable inventory. Communicate pricing to sales colleagues by updating computerized inventory and announcing any changes.
  • Establish and maintain good relations with the broker/dealer community through regular telephone contact and business/social meetings.
  • Assist sales colleagues to develop new clients and service existing clients with their investment needs.
  • Identify new product or technology needs and work with vendors or trading partners to fulfill as required.
  • Advise sales colleague and management of pertinent market and economic information and its anticipated effects upon the market. Gather data from market information services, industry forecasts and publications and determines how these activities will affect security prices and yields. Present evaluation and briefing as necessary during the day. Advises on Treasury auction calendar, new Federal Agency issues, and favorable prices on Agency discount notes available from the window.
  • Verify accuracy and pricing on daily inventory reports and keeps management apprised.
  • Assist operation staff with tenders and non-competitive subscriptions for U.S. Treasuries. Help maintain reports and records as required in the Bank's procedures.
  • Maintain all appropriate training and continuing education requirements for both internal programs and external licenses and certifications.
  • Monitor inventory accounts and trade reports. Identify, investigate, and resolve issues including risk management issues.
  • Provide investment officers and financial advisors with portfolio analytics and investment proposals.
  • Identify and resolve trade issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide management with ad-hoc position reports used to identify potential risk issues.
  • Assist RBCS Branch Manager and/or RBCS Chief Compliance Officer with projects and tasks related to RBCS' adherence to regulatory rules, policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in brokerage fixed income trade desk operation.
  • 10+ years of fixed-income trading experience
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements, including Trace and MSRB
  • FINRA Series 7
  • FINRA Series 24
  • FINRA Series 63 or 66

Additional Qualifications
  • FINRA Series 53 preferred
  • Demonstrated trade desk management experience and acknowledged success in a trade management role.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements, including TRACE and MSRB, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Bloomberg, Bloomberg TOMS, Bloomberg API.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable FINRA, SEC broker/dealer regulations as well as Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) and Government Securities Act (GSA) regulations, Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Must possess demonstrated supervisory skills and excellent verbal and written communications skills sufficient to interact with all levels of Bank Personnel and clients.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements, including TRACE and MSRB, etc. preferred

Starting base salary: $101,231 - $172,355 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
