General Summary:

Under the direction of the controller, this position will partner closely with investments, information technology services, finance, legal and compliance leaders to ensure the Investment Operations group supports efficient execution, control and insight across all investment activities. Lead the Investment Operations group that supports the day-to-day investment activity for State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) internally and externally managed public and private market investments.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily investment operations for the full investment life cycle of both public and private investments, including trade support, reconciliations, corporate actions, cash flow processing and coordination of investment manager additions and terminations.

  • Supervise the maintenance and integrity of STRS Ohio's Investment Book of Record (IBOR) and Order Management System (OMS) platforms (SimCorp, Triton, Bloomberg AIM).

  • Manage and oversee the Investment Operations teams, including planning, prioritizing and directing projects and tasks. Provide leadership and direction for the teams, including succession planning and staffing. Participate in all aspects of the Performance Management Process by providing input and feedback on associate performance and goals.

  • Oversee the design and continuous improvement of workflows to enable effective, efficient, scalable and robust investment operations.

  • Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with investments, information technology services, legal, compliance and finance teams to enable enterprise-wide alignment and execution.

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent required.

  • Master's degree or industry-related investment finance certifications, such as CPA, CFA or CFA-related, etc. required.

  • Ten years of progressive leadership experience in investment operations or middle office functions within the asset management industry required.

  • Pension industry experience preferred.

  • Comprehensive understanding of operational processes, including internally and externally managed domestic and global, and best practices across the front, middle, and back office.

  • Demonstrated and hands-on experience implementing or managing SimCorp Dimension, Bloomberg AIM or comparable platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and mentor associates and peers and foster a culture of teamwork required.
