Principal Associate, International Risk Management

Team Details:

Capital One is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Principal Risk Associate for the International Risk Management team, within the Operational Risk Management second line of defense. With an increasingly complex and interconnected global environment, the International Risk team is a dedicated group of risk professionals responsible for overseeing and effectively challenging Capital One's international business activities, including our non-US products, services, offshore associates, contractors, and facilities to manage our international risk exposure. Additionally, the team serves as a valuable resource in helping our business navigate new intent around the world.

With international risk becoming a topic of increased focus across the banking industry, garnering substantial interest from investors, regulators, and the public, the team's work is highly visible within Capital One.

As a Principal Risk Associate on the International Risk Program, you will apply your risk analysis and advisory skills to major company challenges. And you will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibility, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes international risk data and influences others to proactively identify country risks and trends on an ongoing basis

  • Advises multiple businesses and support functions on country risks and is a thought leader on how to meaningfully enhance our second line framework to oversee Capital One's international risk profile

  • Fosters a highly collaborative environment with other risk teams to create an integrated international risk experience for the business

  • Assesses changes in internal and/or external country exposures and conditions, identifying and reporting on relevant risks

  • Executes challenge activities to elevate areas of suspected risk and escalates, as appropriate, to leadership

  • Demonstrates independent and adaptive problem-solving and analysis skills, with a high attention to detail

  • Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization

  • Is forward-leaning and stays current on changing economic, social and political environments to understand the impacts to Capital One's foreign business activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in risk management

  • At least 2 years of experience conducting risk oversight and effective challenge

  • At least 2 years of experience advising internal or external stakeholders on risk identification and mitigation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a field such as Economics, Econometrics, International Economics, International Affairs, Quantitative Social Sciences or Political Analytics

  • 1+ year of experience in international economic or political risk analysis

  • 1+ year of experience in international or country risk management/advisory

  • Industry certifications in Risk Management (e.g. Certified Risk Management Professional)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist


New York, NY: $131,800 - $150,500 for Principal Risk Specialist


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
