Job description

Jump Trading Group is committed to world class research. We empower exceptional talents in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to seek scientific boundaries, push through them, and apply cutting edge research to global financial markets. Our culture is unique. Constant innovation requires fearlessness, creativity, intellectual honesty, and a relentless competitive streak. We believe in winning together and unlocking unique individual talent by incenting collaboration and mutual respect. At Jump, research outcomes drive more than superior risk adjusted returns. We design, develop, and deploy technologies that change our world, fund start-ups across industries, and partner with leading global research organizations and universities to solve problems.

Are you a highly organized, strong communicator with an interest in our industry? Do you have an analytical mind, a love of solving challenging problems, a desire to join a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, and an intellectual curiosity that pushes you to reach your fullest potential? If so, this role may be a good fit for you.

In this role you will support the global operations of Jump by maintaining the integrity of the general ledger across a multitude of legal entities. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Accounting Analyst are to maintain and optimize the accounting processes related to global centralized accounting functions, including compensation, equity and consolidations, and daily cash reconciliations, and ensure that the books and records of the many Jump legal entities are complete and accurate. The Senior Accounting Analyst is also responsible for ensuring that our processes enable the department to best support existing business as well as future growth and expansion.ย ย  You will have responsibility for the books and records of several Jump subsidiaries including period-end financial reporting, assume accounting responsibility related to various components of the Firm's spend, and analyze and report on this spend. Each day you will be faced with new challenges that will continuously leave you looking for ways to improve processes and increase efficiency across the department while ensuring a focus on excellence and maintaining high standards of accuracy and accountability.

This role is based out of our Chicago office reporting to the Accounting Director, with an expectation to work in the office at least 4 days per week.

What You'll Do:

  • Month-end close. Drive our month-end close, managing central processes that span a multitude of legal entities and jurisdictions, preparing and posting activity and owning critical reconciliations across systems and data that ensure our books tell an accurate, GAAP-compliant story with strong controls.
  • Automated reconciliations. Manage our automated daily cash activity process across all of our entities, investigating breaks, posting resolutions to keep the general ledger clean and trustworthy, and identifying additional automations to continuously streamline the process.
  • Variance analysis. Analyze monthly variances to explain why the numbers moved, surfacing trends and anomalies that inform how the business understands its performance.
  • Intercompany & equity. Support our global intercompany and consolidations processes, organizing cross-entity activity in a complex, multinational structure.
  • Problem-solving & process improvement. Tackle ad hoc analyses and open-ended questions, continuously looking for ways to streamline and strengthen how we work.
  • Audit & tax support. Partner with external auditors and tax, building the supporting schedules and documenting the accounting support that stand behind our financials.
  • Finance automation. Contribute to the team's finance automation and AI initiatives, applying new tools to reconciliations, reporting and close processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

Skills You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Preferably CPA certified, or working towards CPA certification.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience with a track record of owning the general ledger, reconciling complex accounts, and improving close processes in a fast-paced, multi-entity organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel, and familiarity with NetSuite or other accounting software. Comfort adopting new technology and automation tools.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with the curiosity to dig past the numbers to the story behind them.
  • Clear communication and the ability to translate financial information and flag issues early.
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and dependable - able to juggle competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment and work both independently and as part of a team, especially through critical close periods.
