Job description

Overall Job Summary
This position serves as the senior legal leader and business partner for Tractor Supply Company's (TSC) Stores, Supply Chain, and Petsense functions. The role is responsible for leading and managing all legal matters related to the Company's 2400 retail store operations, real estate, and distribution centers , while providing strategic legal counsel and risk management guidance to executive and operational leadership.
The role also manages outside counsel, litigation relating to store operations and property matters, and contributes to corporate strategic initiatives affecting the Company's physical footprint and operational risk profile.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Minimum of 5% of time spent)
  • Provide practical, risk-balanced legal advice on operational, strategic, and growth initiatives.
  • Participate as a member of cross-functional leadership teams to align legal strategy with enterprise objectives.
  • Oversee all legal aspects of real estate transactions in cluding leasing, acquisitions, development and sale/leaseback transactions,
  • Ensure compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements impacting store operations, including agricultural, animal health, pharmacy, propane, feed, and other regulated product licenses.
  • Partner with Risk Management and Finance to evaluate coverage strategy and exposure mitigation.
  • Provide legal counsel to Supply Chain leadership regarding distribution center operations, transportation, logistics, and vendor-related operational agreements
  • Lead and develop a team responsible for real estate legal, licensing, and insurance matters.

Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant legal practice experience, including significant real estate and operational legal experience. Prior in-house experience supporting multi-unit retail or distributed operations preferred. Demonstrated management experience leading legal teams.
Education: Juris Doctor degree required.
Professional Certifications:
Other knowledge, skills or abilities:
  • Deep knowledge of retail operations, real estate transactions and corporate/commercial contracting.
  • Strong understanding of insurance coverage structures and claims management.
  • Experience managing licensing and regulatory compliance across multi-state operations.
  • Ability to assess risk and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
  • Strategic thinker with strong executive presence.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel effectively and cost efficiently.
  • Ability to solve complex legal issues and apply broad principles
