Can you get a CDL with schizophrenia?

Having schizophrenia can impact the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) because federal regulations require drivers to be medically qualified, which includes mental health standards. Applicants must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam, and certain mental health conditions may disqualify individuals from holding a CDL. Each case is evaluated individually, and a diagnosis alone does not automatically disqualify a person if they are stable and meet all medical requirements.
