Checker/Loader - Forklift Operator - Short Block Loading Docks - Temple, TX - 1st Shift.

Carpenter Company has immediate openings for Checker/Loader Forklift Operator at their Temple, TX manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently unloading/loading trucks; performing final quality checks on finished products and loading on trailer per customer requirements.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate with management, excel in customer service skills, and work well independently.

This position will ensure the proper loading of material on trucks to maximize usage of space; thus, requiring the safe operation of a forklift.

  • Must be able to read and completely understand the labeling process and read and write English.
  • Recharge forklift batteries or propane tanks as instructed.
  • Understand the Carpenter Company Safe Stacking Policy and the recognition of prohibited and restricted area requirements.
  • Must check and load trailers per customer requirements.
  • Understands and follows safety procedures involving the loading of trailers.
  • Must use a manifest to load trailers properly.
  • Must report and recognize trailers that are in disrepair and could harm the product being shipped.
  • Must have the ability to operate a forklift in confined spaces where other forklifts are working and other employees are working and walking.
  • Must obtain a Carpenter Company Forklift Certification.
  • Must have the ability to drive a forklift in reverse hauling product to a final location in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Must be able to input data into the computer system.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Additional responsibilities of the Check/Loader Operator:

  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures
  • Load trucks in proper sequence
  • Check loading tickets
  • Use forklift to load trailers as needed
  • Record and track information in inventory control system
  • Verify trucks have been loaded properly
  • Move stock in loading are as necessary
  • Inspect trailers for damage
  • Forklift certified - will be certified by Carpenter Co.

Skills/ Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in shipping and/or receiving
  • Prior experience in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Prior forklift experience, preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must take initiative and be a self-starter
  • Read and interpret a tape measure.
  • Must obtain a Carpenter Company Forklift Certification prior to operating a forklift.
  • Must have basic reading, writing and math skills.
  • Must have some computer skills and knowledge and be able to use a computer in day to day operations.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays and call-in with little notice.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
