Job description

We are looking for part-time Track & Field Instructors to join our team for the Spring and Summer Track and Field Season (March 16th- July 17th).
Hours are Mondays and Fridays 5:30pm-8pm.
The Westfield Area YMCA Flyers Track Club is a USATF certified club led by experienced staff! The program serves nearly 700 athletes each year ages 7-15. The program offers year-round training options for athletes of all ability levels - from first time participants to national champions. Coaches with personal and/or coaching experience in any of the following areas are welcome to apply: sprints, distance, race-walk, javelin, shot put, discus, long jump, hurdles and relays.
As a Track & Field Instructor you will be responsible to organize, supervise and instruct athletes in a way that will enable participants to learn the basic sport specific skills that apply the philosophy and goals of YMCA character development.
  • Deliver curriculum for different skill levels.
  • Coach, supervise and operate a quality team by demonstrating strong YMCA values, mission-based foundation and member service.
  • Communicate in advance any scheduling conflicts.
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis regarding the programs.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Provide and maintain a safe program environment at all times.
  • Be responsible for the safety of all participants.
  • Is aware and will follow proper emergency procedures at all times.
  • Demonstrate a mature, professional attitude in the workplace.
  • React appropriately to all emergencies.
  • Uphold Risk Management Standards at all times.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Pay:
Minor: $15.50 - 16.50 per hour
Adult: $16.00 - 19.00 per hour, based on years of teaching/coaching experience

Requirements
  • As a condition of employment, the incumbent must possess, maintain and renew CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, which includes EPI and Asthma certifications.
  • Have knowledge of Track & Field programs and specific sport skills
  • Have good communication skills that enable them to interact with children and parents.
  • Have good organizational skills.
  • Be able to lift heavy equipment and be able to conduct rigorous practices.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and make decisions during extenuating circumstances regarding safety, security and emergency situations to protect the interests of our members, staff and gym facilities.
  • Present themselves as a leader at all times.
  • Possess an outgoing and enthusiastic attitude, which will enable them to deal with staff and members appropriately.
