Job Summary
Assists the Head Track & Field/Cross Country Coach in the operation and administration of the Angelo State University Track & Field and Cross Country programs. Responsibilities include supporting student-athlete development, recruiting efforts, academic success initiatives, competition preparation, and other program activities in support of the Athletics Department's mission.
Essential Duties
  1. Complies with all NCAA, Lone Star Conference (LSC), Angelo State University, and Texas Tech University System policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  2. Assists with planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competition preparation for track & field and cross country student-athletes.
  3. Assists with the recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes.
  4. Supports the academic success, personal development, and retention of student-athletes.
  5. Assists with evaluating athletic performance and implementing strategies to enhance individual and team success.
  6. Assists with the coordination of home competitions, team travel, and other program operations.
  7. Represents Angelo State University and the Track & Field/Cross Country programs through community engagement, public relations, fundraising, and other promotional activities.
  8. Assists with the supervision of graduate assistants, student assistants, managers, and student-athletes, and performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of track & field and cross country rules, techniques, training methods, and conditioning principles.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to coach, teach, and develop student-athletes in a competitive environment.
  • Ability to recruit and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
  • Ability to coordinate practices, competitions, and program activities.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, coaches, administrators, alumni, and community members.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Track & Field coaching experience or collegiate/professional Track & Field or Cross Country participation experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Intercollegiate Track & Field and/or Cross Country coaching experience.

Physical Requirements
The position requires prolonged periods of standing with intermittent sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and grasping. Manual dexterity is required. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with periodic exposure to dust, pollen, heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions.
