Job Summary:
Covenant Christian High School (Indianapolis) is dedicated to providing an excellent Christ-centered education, equipping students for lives of scholarship, leadership, and service.
Covenant Christian is seeking a strong Christian to be the Boys/Girls Head Track & Field Coach. All Covenant coaches should exemplify personal and professional characteristics that we strive to teach our student athletes, pushing them both academically and to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. The position will include but not be limited to spiritual mentorship, growth and development of the program, administration of the program, oversight of coaching staff, and practice and game instruction.
Covenant desires that student athletes possess Christ-like characteristics and are able to express them openly through the medium of sports. Our goal is to build eternal values in the students, while at the same time be a testimony of the power of Jesus Christ to all of those that we come in contact with during athletic events. Winning is important, but it is secondary to the Godly principles that the program is striving to instill into the student athlete.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Maintain high expectations for student athletes and managers both academically and athletically.
  • Utilize, organize and work with other assistant coach(es) and team parent(s).

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Educates individuals, groups, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for the sport.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions.
  • Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games.
  • Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.
  • Invests in the spiritual formation of athletes.
  • Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.
  • Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.
  • Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely.
  • Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.
  • Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to particular sport or sports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the assigned sport.
  • Ability to work with student athletes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One to two or more years of experience as a high school level coach preferred.
