Tax Director (Partner Track)

Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)

Compensation: $180,000–$250,000 base salary, plus performance bonus (10–25%), comprehensive benefits, and a defined path to Partnership.

About the Opportunity

Our growing Atlanta-based public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Tax Director to join our leadership team. This is a high-impact, client-facing role designed for an accomplished tax professional who is passionate about delivering exceptional client service, developing talent, and growing a practice. The position offers a clearly defined path to Partnership for candidates who demonstrate strong technical expertise, leadership, and business development capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead tax planning, compliance, and consulting engagements for a diverse portfolio of closely held businesses, corporations, partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, and family-owned enterprises.

  • Serve as the primary advisor to key clients, building trusted relationships and providing strategic tax guidance.

  • Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.

  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and proactively advise clients on planning strategies.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop managers, senior associates, and staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Manage engagement budgets, staffing, profitability, and client satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with firm leadership to expand existing client relationships and identify new business opportunities.

  • Participate in networking, marketing, and business development initiatives to support continued firm growth.

  • Stay current on tax legislation, regulatory changes, and industry developments.

Qualifications
  • CPA license required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's in Taxation or related field is a plus.

  • 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.

  • Significant experience reviewing complex business and individual tax returns.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing client engagements and developing teams.

  • Strong communication, relationship management, and client advisory skills.

  • Proven business development experience or a demonstrated interest in practice growth is highly preferred.

  • Experience with tax technology and research platforms.

Preferred Experience
  • Corporate, partnership, pass-through entity, and individual taxation.

  • Tax planning and consulting for privately held companies.

  • Multi-state taxation and complex tax issues.

  • Experience serving clients across a variety of industries.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $180,000–$250,000
