What is a Tpf developer?

A TPF (Transaction Processing Facility) Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance applications on the IBM TPF operating system. TPF is primarily used in industries requiring real-time, high-volume transaction processing, such as airlines, banking, and travel. A TPF Developer works with assembly language, C, or TPF-specific languages to optimize system performance and ensure stability. They also troubleshoot issues, implement new features, and enhance existing applications. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with low-level programming are essential for this role.

What are the typical daily tasks and responsibilities of a Tpf developer?

As a Tpf Developer, your daily responsibilities typically include designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software modules for high-volume transaction processing systems. You will frequently analyze system requirements, debug real-time applications, and optimize performance for mission-critical operations. Collaboration is common—you’ll work closely with other developers, QA analysts, system architects, and sometimes directly with clients or support teams. The role often involves problem-solving in high-pressure environments to minimize downtime and ensure seamless system functionality. Staying up-to-date with evolving guidelines and best practices in TPF development is also a routine part of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tpf developer?

A Tpf Developer needs strong programming skills in languages like Assembly and C, along with a solid understanding of Transaction Processing Facility (TPF) systems and real-time operating environments. Familiarity with mainframe-based development tools, TPF-specific utilities, and version control systems is typically required; relevant certifications or hands-on experience with TPF platforms are highly valued. Excellent analytical thinking, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for troubleshooting and collaborating across technical teams. These skills ensure the developer can efficiently maintain and enhance mission-critical systems that support industries like airlines, banking, and hospitality.

Job description

Hi,

I hope you are doing well.

Please find the job details below:

Job Title:  Principal Enterprise Architect – Estimation Systems
Location:  Washington, DC
Requirement:
Client is seeking a high-caliber Principal Enterprise Architect – Estimation Systems to serve as a key technical authority driving the R&D, design, and long-term evolution of advanced estimation platforms for a leading rail transportation client in the Washington, D.C. area. Sitting at the intersection of enterprise architecture leadership and advanced computational science, this role requires deep expertise in physics-based modeling, statistical algorithms, and real-time data processing. You will lead cross-functional engineering teams through major legacy-to-modernization transformations—bridging mainframes with modern cloud-native, event-driven architectures—while aligning solutions with enterprise standards (TOGAF, BizBOK, DAMA-DMBOK) across operational, planning, and financial domains.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Leadership: Architect and evolve scalable, high-accuracy estimation platforms utilizing event-driven microservices, real-time data processing, and distributed systems patterns.
R&D & Algorithmic Innovation: Drive R&D initiatives applying advanced mathematics, statistics, optimization algorithms, and physics-based simulation models to solve complex, domain-specific estimation challenges.
Enterprise Standards & Governance: Establish and enforce enterprise architecture standards aligned with frameworks such as TOGAF, BizBOK, and DAMA-DMBOK within a SAFe (Scaled Agile) environment.
Domain & Solution Modernization: Lead large-scale rail transportation modernization efforts, designing integrated solutions that address complex multi-domain business challenges spanning operations, planning, and finance.
Legacy-to-Cloud Transformation: Formulate and execute transition strategies migrating legacy platforms (IBM Mainframe, TPF) to modern, cloud-native tech stacks (Java, Spring Boot).
Stakeholder & Technical Guidance: Act as the primary technical advisor to senior business and engineering leaders, translating complex requirements into architectural roadmaps while mentoring junior architects and engineers.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience: 15+ years of total IT experience, including 10+ years in senior enterprise or systems architecture roles.
Domain Expertise: Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale architecture solutions within the rail transportation industry.
Computational Depth: Demonstrated experience designing complex estimation, statistical, optimization, or physics-based modeling systems.
Modern Stack Proficiency: Deep technical knowledge of event-driven architectures, microservices, distributed systems, Java/Spring Boot, and real-time data frameworks alongside legacy systems (IBM Mainframe/TPF).
Frameworks & Agile: Working experience with enterprise frameworks (TOGAF preferred, BizBOK, DAMA-DMBOK) and 5+ years of experience operating within SAFe or equivalent Agile-at-scale environments.
Leadership & Communication: Outstanding problem-solving ability with proven success influencing executive stakeholders and leading cross-functional engineering teams.
