Sr. Liability Claims Specialist

Job Description Summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Sr. General Liability Claims Specialist who will be responsible for overseeing and managing a portion of Cushman & Wakefield’s U.S. and Canada general liability claims portfolio. Reporting to the North America Risk Manager, the role is responsible for all aspects and phases of the claims assigned to them, from initial reporting and investigation to litigation management through to settlement or denial. This position will partner with the Cushman & Wakefield business teams, third party claims administrator (TPA), insurer claim adjusters, insurance brokers, legal, and other internal and external groups to review, investigate, and assist in the decisions regarding coverage, compensability, and loss control initiatives.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage a portfolio of 200+ open general liability claims, including claims in litigation
  • Daily coordination with insurer claims adjusters, TPA, Cushman & Wakefield business teams, defense counsel, and other parties as needed to develop claim strategy and diligently manage claims through resolution
  • Secure necessary documentation to investigate the incident, evaluate liability and review contractual obligations
  • Analyze contractual requirements, including insurance and indemnification obligations, to evaluate liability and ability to tender
  • Identify claims with third party risk transfer and/or subrogation potential; diligently follow up on tender requests and pursue recovery
  • Manage all aspects of litigation, including reviewing and approving discovery responses on behalf of the company
  • Develop claims closure strategies with the TPA and ensure reserves set by the TPA are adequate; present to key stakeholders and management for settlement authority
  • Review all open claims at least every 30 days internally to ensure timely handling of claim and explore opportunities for cost containment and potential recoveries
  • Coordinate and participate in quarterly claims reviews with the TPA, insurance carriers, and insurance broker
  • Maintain accuracy of claims data and loss history in electronic claims system
  • Prepare monthly management reporting of claims, litigation, and other summaries as needed or requested
  • Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce claims frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management
  • Assist with other risk management and insurance related projects as required or requested
KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Proven record of managing general liability claims, both litigated and non-litigated
  • Ability to assess coverage, liability, contractual requirements, and claim reserves
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and implement corrective action
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and large inventory of open claims with high attention to detail
  • Ability to understand corporate structure of a complex, publicly traded global company
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, including oral and written communication and ability to work with a variety of personalities at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to achieve successful outcomes on claims and other projects with minimal oversight
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiating, and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of commercial real estate industry is a plus
IMPORTANT EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in risk management, business or other related field but not required
IMPORTANT EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years in insurance, risk management and/or insurance claims roles
  • Experience with US general liability insurance coverages
  • Experience with claims management of litigated and non-litigated claims
  • Multi-state claims experience and ability to handle a national portfolio of claims        
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
  • License or certification in claims handling, risk management and/or insurance is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Computer proficiency to utilize online Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS)
