Depending on the workplace, you may work independently or as part of a team, coordinating closely with shipping, receiving, and inventory departments. This role often requires attention to changing priorities and teamwork to keep warehouse operations running smoothly.
A Tow Motor Operator is responsible for operating a tow motor, also known as a forklift, to move materials within a warehouse, factory, or storage facility. Their duties include loading and unloading shipments, transporting goods to designated areas, and ensuring inventory is properly stored. They must follow safety protocols, inspect equipment regularly, and coordinate with other team members to maintain an efficient workflow. This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and certification in forklift operation.
To thrive as a Tow Motor Operator, you need strong mechanical aptitude, spatial awareness, and a high school diploma or GED. Operation of forklifts or tow motors usually requires OSHA certification and familiarity with warehouse management systems. Attention to detail, reliability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this position. These competencies ensure safe, efficient movement of materials and smooth coordination within warehouse or industrial environments.

Summary: Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. May be required to perform non-receiver duties on a temporary basis.
Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
Opens containers. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area in a timely manner to assist production team in meeting production time lines.
Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
Loads truck for Industrial Truck Operator.
Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist.
