Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION *Tour Guide* Value Added Solutions (VAS) is searching for four (4) part-time Tour Guides for our client the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). These positions generally work 10-20 hours a week, there is no expectation for full-time work. This is an excellent opportunity for a lifelong science communicator who wants to be involved with the cutting edge research and development within the USA.

Scope: Execute the tour function at Argonne National Laboratory. Deliverables: Conduct tours of Argonne facilities including describing facilities, answering questions, and providing directions. Ensure that all guests conform to applicable safety and site security requirements during the tour.

Problem-solve to address emerging issues such as unexpected facility closures, severe weather incidents, or guest medical issues. Contribute to development of tour content. Train new tour guides through direct education and shadowing.

Time: Ad hoc. Tours typically last from 2-3 hours. Wage Rate: $34.15 per hour

JOB REQUIREMENTS Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a scientific, engineering, or education major The primary skills required to complete this work are: Exceptional communication and people skills, and time management skills. Ability to translate complex scientific and technical concepts into terms understandable by students and the public. Extensive knowledge of Argonne's facilities frequented by tour groups, which may be gained by training.

Special Considerations: Must successfully complete all facility-specific training and safety courses before leading any tours and remain current with ongoing training requirements. Irregular and on-call work shift times, which may include weekends. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
