Reports to: Manager of School and Teacher Programs

Department: Education

Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time 

Schedule: 15-20 hours/week, Tuesday - Friday 

Pay Rate: $25/hour


Mission: The Dallas Museum of Art is a space of wonder and discovery where art comes alive.


The DMA will:

  • Place art and our diverse communities at the center around which all activities radiate.
  • Pursue excellence in collecting and programming, present works of art across cultures and time, and be a driving force in contemporary art.
  • Strengthen our position as a prominent, innovative institution, expanding the meaning and possibilities of learning and creativity.

Scope of the Position:

The Gallery Educator works closely with the Manager of School and Teacher Programs and other Gallery Educators to facilitate engaging educational programs for K-12 school audiences. The role includes developing and leading interactive learning experiences at the Museum and in Dallas ISD classrooms, specifically focusing on the DMA's multi-visit school partnerships with middle school students and Special Education programming.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaches monthly partnership programs with Dallas ISD middle schools, onsite at the museum and offsite at partnership schools
  • Assists in the development and writing of teaching and educational materials for K-12 school tours
  • Assists with school programming for students with disabilities, including tours at the Museum and Special Education Art Workshops at schools
  • Organizes and assists in preparing educational and evaluation materials for school tour and school partnership programs
  • Prepares self-guided My DMA-zing tours, greeting and directing school groups
  • Manages resources for the K-12 school tour programs, including organizing supplies, prepping materials, and maintaining up-to-date material inventory
  • Attends initial week-long training session and weekly educator training as well as additional educational events provided by the Museum
  • Supports Family, Youth and School events and programming including Go van Gogh, Family Festival, Spring Break, Wee Wednesday, Travis Takeover as needed
  • Gives tours for K-12, family, college, and adult groups as needed, including leading unscheduled and last-minute tours.
  • Be an ambassador for the Museum, to students, teachers, and museum visitors. 

Requirements


Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1-2 years' teaching experience with children in a museum, classroom, or informal setting.

Key Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of learning styles, educational philosophy, teaching strategies and multidisciplinary approaches in developing educational programming.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently, take initiative and problem solve.
  • Ability to provide front-line customer service skills to a variety of stakeholders in fluid or challenging situations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, working effectively and efficiently under pressure with interruptions.
  • Excellent written, organizational, interpersonal and speaking skills.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude, empathy, a high level of emotional intelligence and conducts self in professional manner.
  • A valid driver's license is required. Must be comfortable driving a minivan on highways in traffic.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
