About the Company

Our client is a growing fire protection engineering and consulting firm specializing in fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, code consulting, integrated testing, and life safety solutions. The team supports commercial, industrial, and residential projects throughout Ontario and is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer who can independently manage projects while contributing to long-term client relationships and business growth.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to join a growing team serving clients across the Greater Toronto Area. This position offers a hybrid work environment and requires occasional travel to project sites throughout Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, North York, and surrounding GTA locations.

The ideal candidate possesses strong fire sprinkler design experience, a solid engineering foundation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. This role is suited for someone who takes ownership of their work and can effectively coordinate with clients, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems for commercial, industrial, residential, and institutional projects.
  • Develop sprinkler layouts, demolition plans, permit drawings, and detailed construction documents using AutoCAD and HydraCAD.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations utilizing HydraCALC.
  • Conduct site visits, field surveys, inspections, testing, and data collection throughout the GTA.
  • Review and coordinate architectural, mechanical, structural, electrical, and civil drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), and applicable NFPA standards.
  • Prepare permit submissions and coordinate approvals with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical guidance throughout project execution.
  • Assist with project scoping, estimating, proposal preparation, and design reviews.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen client relationships and support future business development efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of dedicated Fire Sprinkler Design experience.
  • Strong understanding of fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, and fire pumps.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, HydraCAD, and HydraCALC.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • NFPA 13
    • NFPA 13R
    • NFPA 13D
    • NFPA 14
    • NFPA 20
    • Ontario Building Code (OBC)
    • Applicable Fire Codes and industry standards
  • Ability to independently produce sprinkler design packages with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Must reside within the Greater Toronto Area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, and residential projects.
  • Familiarity with integrated testing, fire alarm systems, and life safety systems.
  • Previous experience supporting proposals, pricing, or client relationship management.
  • Professional designation or certifications such as P.Eng., EIT, CET, CTech, CFAA, NICET, CFPS, or BCIN are considered assets.
