Position Summary:

The Accounting Professional, along with the rest of the team and work unit, supports the CU Health Plan function and maintains all assigned University of Colorado Health and Welfare Trust accounting transactions. This position will provide a variety of daily professional accounting services in support of the team and work unit and will have day-to-day responsibilities that consist of ensuring proper accounting transactions of the Trust, billing employers for member coverage, paying vendors appropriately and timely, and assisting with financial reporting. 
This position reports to the CU Health Plan Accounting Director and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classification system.
 

Where You Will Work:

Applicants must be Colorado residents or able to relocate to Colorado within a month of starting employment with University of Colorado System Administration.

This role is eligible to work remotely within Colorado.

Please note, leadership may adjust in-office work requirements with a minimum of three months' notice before any change can be implemented.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Billing employers for coverage and maintaining subsidiary accounts receivable ledger
  • Compiling data in preparation for creating journal entries
  • Entering Trust transactions into the general ledger systems, including uploading recurring entries 
  • Performing general ledger account reconciliations
  • Making vendor payments
  • Creating and maintaining various schedules of activities
  • Compiling various data for compliance with external reporting requirements
  • Assembling documentation requested for audits
  • Maintaining various schedules, including bank receipts
  • Assisting with reporting requirements
  • Responding to ad hoc data requests
  • Performing required Trust tax and regulatory compliance
  • Creating various managerial reports and analyzing activity

Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $60,000-$64,000.

CU System Administration takes into consideration a combination of the selected candidate's education, training and experience as it relates to the position, as well as the position's scope and complexity, internal pay equity and external market value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please include all relevant experience in your resume to be accurately assessed against these qualifications.  You must meet all minimum requirements at the time of application to be considered for this role.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in accounting (professional experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the educational requirement)
  • One (1) year of professional experience in an accounting or a business-related position, or similar
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in an accounting or a business-related position, or similar. 
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Human Resources and Financial software
  • Familiarity with accounting or financial analysis in an insurance entity or a self-funded health plan environment.
  • Understanding of health insurance financial metrics (IBNR reserves, pharmacy benefit pricing models, etc.)
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, employees will need to know the following:

  • Skilled in using and applying Microsoft Office programs
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other University personnel, and the public
  • Intermediate technology and computer skills
  • Knowledge of standard accounting policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and actively seek out opportunities to promote and cultivate diversity across the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
