Job description

Tool & Die Maker | Evansville, IN | Starting Pay $32.30 per hour
Join Silgan Closures, America's largest metal food packaging producer, as an Tool & Die Maker in Evansville, IN. We're looking for skilled tool & die makers to construct, repair and maintain production equipment tooling, perform preventative maintenance on presses, luggers, lining machines, and perform precision machining of shafts, die set parts and other fabricated parts as required.

What you'll do:
  • Work from blueprint, sketch, sample parts or verbal instructions
  • Requires a knowledge of advance shop mathematics, the ability to use charts and tables as found in handbooks, the planning and laying out of shop work, the defining of metal flow in die, a knowledge of all metals sufficient to select a suitable type steel for tools, requires a knowledge of the working and hardening properties of metal, such as aluminum brass, cast and wrought iron and various steels, the dimensions and uses of standard bolts, screws , threads and tapers
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, scale, vernier caliper, height, depth gauge, telescope gauge, dial indicators, comparator, etc. Use Machinist's hand tools such as scrapers, chisels, files, etc., to obtain proper fits. Scrape surfaces to realign or rebuild machines
  • Layout and develop templates and patterns for die development and other purposes; construct and develop rectangular and tapered draw dies, perforating dies, upsetting dies, threader tooling and other complicated tooling such as gauges; assists engineering in experimental and development work as directed by Supervisor; may recommend design changes to engineering
  • Overhaul various machines and equipment, recommending and making all necessary repairs; making and replacing worn and/or broken parts and assemble as necessary for proper operation when this level of expertise is required for the particular job
