Job description

Position Summary

  • Oversees personnel responsible for sharpening of cutting tools for CNC Milling Machines, and performing manufacturing, maintenance and modifications on cutting tools and balancing of holders.
  • Supervises cutting tool grinding room and the kitting of cutting tools and cutting tool holders for specific job part numbers. 
  • Oversight of Cutting Tool Room, for maintaining cutting tools and holders for production requirements and maintenance needs. 
  • Oversees the purchase of new cutting tools, setscrew and shrink fit holders.
  • Reduces costs through purchase of new cutter technology with coatings for improved cutting and cutting tool life.
  • Maintain as well as improve Quality and Production through maintenance and improvements in cutting tools.
  • Ensures employee conformance to established procedures and quality level of Arden Engineering’s Quality Policy and conformance to Customer Engineering and Specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the selection and ordering of cutting tools and holders.
  • Oversees fabrication and sharpening of cutting tools.
  • Oversees set- up of cutting tools and balancing of cutting tools in holders.
  • Supervisor has full authority and may be considered middle management and oversees most day-to-day operations of group. 
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.  
  • Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of tasks.
  • Typically reports to upper management. 
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures within several fields.
  • 5 plus years experience with cutting tools grinding/sharpening and balancing of cutting tool holders. 
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, QC standards, tolerances, set up requirements, cutting tool design, and tool holding technology.
  • Knowledgeable of Machine Shop tools, equipment and proficient with their setup and operation.
  • Good Communication skills and work habits.
  • Print interpretation.
  • Metric tolerances.
  • Standard safety training.
