Responsibilities

Position: Roadside Assistance Vehicle Operator

Location: Austin, TX

Shift(s): Wednesday- Sunday (PM Shift, 2pm- 10pm)

Pay: $18/hr

  • Helps customers with vehicle services, including but not limited to, flat tires, jumpstarts, minor repairs, and refueling
  • Provides assistance to stranded motorists
  • Facilitates the expedient flow of traffic through the roadway
  • Diverts traffic from the toll roads to alternate routes when a major incident occurs
  • Maintains a set of alternate routes and plans for implementing routes that will serve as a relief valve and carry a fraction of normal toll road traffic
  • Has thorough knowledge of all areas surrounding the toll road in order to provide motorists directions to locations in the city and local landmarks
  • Removes stalled vehicles from the toll lanes and ramps
  • Removes debris from the roadway and coordinates large debris pick-up and removal with DOT maintenance personnel
  • Coordinates with DOT for alternate routes for emergency conditions
  • Coordinates traffic at toll plazas to facilitate lane equipment maintenance
  • Coordinates with local law enforcement agencies
  • Removes vehicles from the lane once the situation has been stabilized
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle
  • Arrives to work on time and in uniform for all scheduled shifts
  • Performs Plaza and Ramp checks
  • Performs other duties as assigned by on-site supervisors or managers

Qualifications

Education/Experience Required: High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of experience and education

License Requirement: Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license

Availability to Work: Special shift requirements, if any, will vary depending on a location's hiring needs. If applicable, availability to work 2nd shift, 3rd shift and/or week-ends may be required. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule

  • Ability to read, write and interpret the English language
  • Have a thorough knowledge of all areas and landmarks surrounding toll roads in order to provide directions to motorists
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; Able to deal with change, delays, or unexpected events
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment
  • Ability to maintain a calm, pleasant and mannerly demeanor when speaking with the public
  • Ability to effectively respond to customer problems or complaints. Superior communication skills, verbal and written
  • Must be proactive with strong personal drive and proven customer service skills and must be willing to lead by example
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, supervisors and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but standard written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Follow well defined methods, procedures, reports, forms and competent aspects of the job
  • Prepare, print, review and distribute all required such reports as needed, perform complete, accurate, and timely operations
