What does a typical day look like for a TOC?

A typical day for a Train Operations Controller involves monitoring and directing train movements, coordinating with engineers, conductors, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, timely service. You’ll use dispatch software and communication systems to address schedule changes and respond quickly to any incidents or delays. Collaboration is constant, as you’re in frequent contact with on-the-ground personnel and other controllers to manage both regular operations and unexpected issues. While the environment can be fast-paced and high-pressure, it is highly rewarding for those who enjoy problem-solving and playing a key role in public transportation.
