What is a Technical Marketing Engineer (TME)?

Technical Marketing Engineers (TMEs) are professionals who bridge the gap between engineering and marketing teams within a technology company. They possess deep technical knowledge of products and communicate this expertise to customers, sales teams, and other stakeholders. TMEs help develop product messaging, create technical documentation, and support product launches by demonstrating value and capabilities. Their role often involves presenting at conferences, gathering customer feedback, and ensuring technical accuracy in marketing materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Technical Marketing Engineer (TME)?

To thrive as a Technical Marketing Engineer, you need a solid technical background in engineering or computer science, along with expertise in the relevant products or solutions. Familiarity with tools such as CRM platforms, demo environments, and certification in specific technologies (like Cisco or AWS) is often required. Exceptional communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills help TMEs bridge technical and non-technical audiences. These abilities are crucial for effectively conveying product value, supporting sales teams, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

How does a Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) typically collaborate with product and sales teams to drive product adoption?

A Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical product development and customer-facing teams. TMEs work closely with product managers to understand new features and ensure technical accuracy in marketing materials. They also collaborate with sales teams by providing technical training, creating demos, and addressing customer concerns during pre-sales engagements. This cross-functional teamwork helps ensure that products are effectively positioned in the market and that customer feedback is relayed back to influence product improvements.

At the Senior Product Manager, AI Infrastructure and Solutions level, you independently lead complex, cross-functional solution scopes across major segments (e.g., Hyperscaler AI, Enterprise, or HPC) and/or a horizontal solution domain with minimal supervision, building strong relationships and influence with stakeholders. Success is measured by the quality of system requirements, compatibility/supportability, integration clarity, and GA readiness.

This is an individual contributor opportunity, not a people management role, and is preferably based in Austin, TX or Santa Clara CA; other locations may be considered for an exceptional alignment of skills/background to the role.

  • You operate well in ambiguity and consistently turn it intostructured decisions, documented tradeoffs, and executable plans
  • A high ownership mindset is your trademark; drive alignment and closure across teams without formal authority
  • Excellent written and verbal communications for executive audiences; You have a track record of producing high-quality artifacts and communicating risk clearly to leadership
  • Pragmatic and data-driven; you distinguish betweencustomer requestsandproduct requirements
  • You demonstrate mature judgment in balancingperformance, supportability, schedule, and ecosystem readiness
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Author and maintain System Requirements Specifications (SRS) for solutions spanning hardware platform, firmware/driver, software stack, compatibility, manageability, and lifecycle expectations
  • Define assumptions, constraints, non-goals, and acceptance criteria
  • Translate customer/segment needs into prioritized requirements
  • Consolidate and normalize customer, Sales, OEM/ODM partner, and internal stakeholder inputs into a structured, prioritized requirements backlog with decision rationale
  • Ensure requirements are workload-grounded and aligned to segment outcomes
  • Lead cross-functional dependency and integration planning
  • Identify dependencies across silicon/platform, firmware/drivers, ROCm/software stack, frameworks, OEM systems, and cloud images
  • Surface integration risks early, drive tradeoff discussions, and maintain decision logs
  • Set performance targets and benchmarking expectations (with TME/Eng)
  • Define workload-level performance goals and proof requirements
  • Ensure performance claims are tied to reproducible methodology and validated configurations
  • Support launch readiness and field enablement
  • Provide accurate “product truth” to PMM and Sales, including supported configs, limitations, known issues, prerequisites, and proof points
  • Contribute to launch briefs, release notes, demo/reference configuration alignment, and field FAQs
  • Run post-launch feedback and escalation triage
  • Structure field feedback intake and prioritize top issues
  • Help determine whether a hotfix, point release, or roadmap action is appropriate; feed learnings into sustaining and next-gen requirements
  • Maintain stakeholder alignment and visibility
  • Publish regular status, risks, decisions, and asks to Eng, TME, PMM, Ops, Sales/FAE, and xBU PMs
  • Escalate with clear options and tradeoffs when decisions are needed
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Senior-level, cross-functional, large enterprise experience in Product Management, Solutions Product Management, Technical Product Management, Systems Engineering, or related roles in:
    • Data center infrastructure
    • AI/ML platforms

  • Demonstrated experience defining and launchingsystem-level solutionsrequiring coordination across hardware, firmware, drivers, software frameworks, and partner ecosystems.
  • Excellent communications, collaboration, and relationship building across functions and organizations
  • Experience working well in ambiguity and creatingstructure and alignment across teams without formal authority, including excellent written and verbal communications for executive audiences
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field strongly desired
