Duties
Help
- Adjust, calibrate, certify, troubleshoot & repair a wide variety of electrical, electronic, physical, and dimensional TMDE, to include electrical, electronic, and physical/dimensional Laboratory Standards, Base Reference Standards and unusually complex multifunctional and/or interrelated TMDE, instruments and instrumentation systems, in any measurement area of the PMEL.
- Coordinate efforts with technical and professional personnel on matters affecting equipment performance, test objectives, and calibration/certification reliability and effectiveness.
- Maintains records and documents actions.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe, clean and secure work environment.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance
• May be detailed to other areas and/or duties, as the mission requires
• Will be required to obtain and maintain qualifications equivalent to 7-skill level, in accordance with the flight's Master Training Plan and other established training requirements
• Will be required to successfully complete the Air Force Trainer's Course
• Will be required to obtain and maintain qualifications necessary to possess a TMDE Certification Stamp, commonly referred to as a "K-stamp", in accordance with applicable directives

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600, Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-2602 ELECTRONIC MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT MECHANICwithout more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of metrology (measurement science), mathematics, physics, electronics, circuit Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic analysis using schematics, diagrams, detailed drawings and computer automation routines to adjust, calibrate and certify complex TMDE.
2. Knowledge of the progressive effects of uncertainties throughout the interrelated units; trace the effect of a change in one subsystem on other subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be adjusted to compensate; apply test uncertainty ratio calculations to determine suitability of calibration standards or to determine adequacy of substitute standard.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and security requirements. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools and power tools, such as drills, chassis punches, wrenches, soldering irons and micro-soldering units to remove and replace circuit parts.
4. Skill to analyze and troubleshoot interface problems between instruments, instrument controllers and sensors in complex test and measurement systems; skill in tracing signals and voltage paths and in the analysis of waveform characteristics such as timing, duration, frequency, and phasing; analyze test set-ups to isolate malfunctions and check performance characteristics of special or one of a kind test set ups; ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish incidental repairs.
5. Ability to work closely with others, and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively train other personnel in accordance with established training guidelines.
6. Ability to document the calibration process; accurately prepare and affix calibration labels and note "as found" & "as returned" condition; identify "Out of Tolerance" conditions and the extent of deviations encountered during the calibration process; ability to understand and document measurement uncertain.
Physical Effort:
Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 50 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires working in a sitting position for extended periods of time, and frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, or other devices to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
Working Conditions:
Employee typically works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. May be required to work in environments where special garments including head coverings, shoe coverings, gloves, and/or coveralls are required. May be required to work at remote user locations under variable conditions. Exposed to high pressure systems, periodic hazardous noise levels, and the possibility of cuts & bruises, electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder and minor cuts or bruises.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
