About the Opportunity


A leading food processing manufacturer is seeking a Project Engineer (Manufacturing/Automation/Machinery) to support automation initiatives, machinery upgrades, plant improvement projects, and manufacturing reliability across a large-scale production facility in Swedesboro, NJ. This position will play a key role in driving continuous improvement, increasing equipment performance, improving uptime, supporting capital projects, and helping modernize manufacturing operations through engineering-led improvements.


The ideal candidate will have experience within manufacturing, food processing, packaging, or industrial environments and possess strong project engineering, reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement experience. Applicants with exposure to automation systems, machinery upgrades, plant optimization, and cross-functional engineering projects are highly encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities as the Project Engineer:


  • Lead plant improvement and capital engineering projects across manufacturing operations
  • Support machinery upgrades, automation projects, and equipment installations
  • Improve equipment reliability, uptime, efficiency, and overall plant performance
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Operations teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, and efficiency
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and reliability improvement strategies
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and external engineering support when required
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment and process issues
  • Help improve manufacturing processes, workflows, and operational performance
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget


Requirements


  • Experience within manufacturing engineering, project engineering, reliability, maintenance, or continuous improvement
  • Background within food processing, food manufacturing, packaging, industrial manufacturing, or similar environments preferred
  • Experience supporting automation systems, machinery, conveyors, packaging equipment, or plant systems
  • Strong project management and cross-functional communication skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, and plant operations
  • Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred, but not essential
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
