Project Engineer

Job Summary

Cornerstone Detention Products is seeking a Project Engineer to support the successful execution of construction projects by coordinating, preparing, and managing all project submittals, engineering documentation, and procurement activities. This role serves as a key technical resource, ensuring materials, drawings, and product information comply with project specifications while supporting Project Managers, architects, suppliers, and field personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and technically proficient, with a strong understanding of construction documentation, project coordination, and engineering processes.

Reporting Structure

Reports To: Construction Operations Manager or Regional Service Manager

Direct Reports: None

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Coordination

  • Prepare, review, and coordinate project approval submittals in accordance with contract documents and project schedules.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and architectural plans.
  • Create engineering drawings, hardware schedules, glass schedules, furniture schedules, and accessory schedules.
  • Develop bills of materials and engineering documentation to support project execution.
  • Utilize AutoCAD or similar drafting software to prepare technical drawings and project details.

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, architects, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review supplier drawings and submittals for compliance with project specifications.
  • Create and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project requirements.
  • Coordinate project keying requirements and support project turnover activities.
  • Maintain accurate project records, documentation, and closeout files.

Procurement & Material Management

  • Coordinate procurement of hardware, glass, engineering-related materials, and specialty products.
  • Prepare material schedules and support purchasing activities.
  • Monitor supplier submittals and ensure timely approvals to maintain project schedules.
  • Assist with hardware inventory and project material tracking.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all submittals and engineering documents comply with contract requirements and applicable building codes.
  • Review project documents for completeness and accuracy before submission.
  • Incorporate addenda and project revisions into construction documents.
  • Support value engineering initiatives and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Construction Project Engineering experience required.
  • 4+ years of Project Engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting commercial construction projects preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable drafting software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and construction submittals.
