Both roles require safety training and some overlapping skills in concrete work, but they serve different stages of the construction process and have distinct responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tilt Up Construction Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tilt Up Construction Worker, you need a solid understanding of construction techniques, blueprint reading, and safety regulations, often supported by experience or vocational training in concrete work. Familiarity with tools like concrete mixers, cranes, and laser levels, as well as certifications such as OSHA safety training, are typically required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate assembly of precast concrete panels, which is crucial for structural integrity and project timelines.

What is the easiest but well paid job?

A tilt-up construction worker can be a well-paid job that requires physical strength, basic construction skills, and safety training. It often offers good wages with on-the-job experience and certifications, and the work environment is typically outdoors and physically demanding. While not necessarily easy, it can be accessible for those willing to learn and work hard.

What is a tilt-up job?

A tilt-up job involves constructing building walls on-site using large concrete panels that are cast horizontally and then tilted into an upright position. Workers in this role typically operate cranes and use specialized tools, and the job requires knowledge of safety protocols and construction techniques. It is common in commercial and industrial building projects.

What are Tilt Up workers?

Tilt Up workers are construction professionals who specialize in the tilt-up method of building. This technique involves casting concrete panels horizontally on-site and then lifting (or 'tilting') them into their vertical position to form the walls of a structure. Tilt Up workers are responsible for preparing forms, pouring concrete, finishing panels, and operating cranes or other machinery for lifting panels. Their work is essential in constructing commercial buildings, warehouses, and schools quickly and efficiently. Safety, precision, and teamwork are critical skills in this role.

What are some typical challenges faced by Tilt-Up Construction professionals on site?

Tilt-Up Construction professionals often encounter challenges such as coordinating large-scale concrete pours, managing tight project timelines, and ensuring the safe lifting and placement of heavy panels. Weather conditions can also significantly impact work schedules and concrete curing times. Close collaboration with engineers, project managers, and crane operators is essential to address these challenges and maintain both safety and quality standards throughout the project.

With established GC relationships, a best-in-class equipment fleet, and a people-first culture built on doing things the right way, this is a senior leadership role with direct influence on the growth of a new DFW division - with the full backing of a nationally established organization and significant runway to build something meaningful. Real pipeline, real growth.

The Opportunity

  • Target project profile: large-scale structural and/or tilt-up warehouse and distribution facilities, 250,000โ€“1,000,000+ SF
  • Established relationships with top-tier national and regional GCs active in the DFW market
  • Fully integrated self-perform operations including in-house finishing - a true differentiator in the market
  • Own equipment company managing batch plant, laser screeds, and full fleet
  • Work-life balance is a priority - we respect your time outside of work

What You'll Do

  • Own the DFW bid pipeline - identify, pursue, and win tilt-up concrete subcontract opportunities with target GC clients
  • Lead all preconstruction activities from initial pursuit through contract execution
  • Manage and mentor the estimating team, reviewing bids for accuracy, competitiveness, and complete scope coverage
  • Perform and oversee detailed quantity takeoffs on tilt-up panel systems, structural CIP, flatwork, and site concrete
  • Develop preconstruction schedules, phasing strategies, and constructability recommendations
  • Lead client-facing presentations, interviews, and scope negotiations with GCs, developers, and owners
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, architects, and structural engineers throughout DFW
  • Collaborate closely with operations leadership to ensure clean, accurate handoffs from preconstruction to field execution
  • Provide value engineering alternatives and creative scope solutions to strengthen competitive position
  • Track and analyze bid activity, win/loss ratios, and DFW market pricing trends
  • Represent the company at industry events and trade associations (AGC, TCA)
  • Partner with company leadership on go/no-go decisions, pricing strategy, and market positioning

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in concrete subcontractor estimating and/or preconstruction - tilt-up experience required
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully pursuing, pricing, and winning concrete subcontract work in a competitive market
  • Deep technical knowledge of tilt-up panel systems including panel layout, embed coordination, brace design, pour sequence, and erection - and the ability to communicate this clearly to field staff
  • Strong understanding of cast-in-place structural concrete, foundations, flatwork, and self-perform operations
  • Proficiency with OST (On-Screen Takeoff), Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Office 365
  • Proven ability to lead high-stakes client presentations and scope negotiations
  • Experience building, managing, and developing estimating teams
  • Entrepreneurial mindset - able to drive business development, build relationships, and create process in a results-oriented environment
  • Active relationships within the DFW general contractor and developer community strongly preferred
  • GC-side candidates with strong tilt-up experience will be considered
  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred - equivalent experience considered

Compensation & Benefits

  • Cell phone and laptop provided
  • PTO competitive and negotiable
  • Formal training program and mentor/mentee program for professional development

Why This Opportunity?

  • Build a division from the ground up backed by one of the most recognized concrete subcontractors in the country
  • Technology-forward organization that competes on speed and quality - aggressive scheduling and self-perform finishing set us apart
  • Fully integrated self-perform operations with an in-house equipment company - you'll have the tools to compete and win
  • Direct path to executive leadership as the division scales
  • A company that does things the right way - unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and its people
