Position Summary:
Support engineering dept. by creating and evaluating prototypes, providing input during design reviews and performing QC checks. Provide training and support of existing and new products. Document new build configurations. Act as a liaison between engineering and production to resolve issues.
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Utilize basic machine, fabrication and weld practices to create new prototype parts/weldments from scratch as well as from engineering drawings.
  • Work with fabrication dept. to create any complex parts.
  • Assemble prototypes for evaluation and document any fit up issues.
  • Operate, test and provide feedback on new prototypes.
  • Perform QC checks on prototype and production parts/weldments to ensure compliance with engineering drawings as needed. Precision measuring devises maybe used.
  • Work with engineering and/or vendors to troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies found by QC checks.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering and production to resolve any fit-up issues of new products.
  • During design reviews, provide "ease of manufacturing" and "ease of assembly" input.
  • Weigh and measure new tractor mower configurations.
  • Conduct product research as needed.
  • Provide training and support to sales and customer service personal.
  • Perform equipment demonstrations for sales and/or dealers.
  • Operates forklift and overhead crane.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining, and assembly operations, and ability to perform these functions preferred.
  • Must have good math skills, including trigonometry and geometry. Must have good mechanical aptitude/ability.
  • Troubleshooting experience with, and knowledge of, electrical and hydraulic systems in mobile equipment preferred.
  • Must have experience with mobile hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, valves, and controls.
  • Ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, and tractors required.
  • Ability to read and use precision measuring devices and equipment, including micrometers, tape measures, dial calipers, and calculators.
  • Ability to weld (MIG and stick) required. Must be able to pass company weld test.
  • Must be able to lay out, weld, machine and assemble parts, with minimal instructions, per Engineering specifications.
  • Availability to travel (up to 4 weeks/year) preferred.
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Current, insurable driver's license required.
  • Three years of experience or more in similar manufacturing environment preferred.

Working Conditions:
Must be able to perform physical duties, including climbing on stairs/ladders up to 10 feet; lifting and/or carrying items up to 35 pounds; pushing, pulling, or dragging items up to 100 pounds; frequently reaching overhead; and standing up to 8 hours daily.
