Job Description
Job Description

Skilled Welder / Fabricator (TIG & MIG)

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced welder and fabricator who takes pride in precision work. In this role, you'll focus primarily on stainless-steel fabrication, straightening, and welding using both gas and electric welding equipment, along with fabrication of carbon-steel and exotic metals. All work is performed within a Nuclear Quality Assurance program, so attention to detail, documentation, and traceability are central to everything you do.

If you're a craftsperson who reads a print, plans your approach, and delivers clean, code-quality welds every time, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

  • Perform TIG (GTAW) and MIG welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and exotic metals
  • Grow into TIP TIG and laser welding with oversight and support
  • Review prints, work orders, and instructions, then plan your procedure, tooling, and material needs
  • Work to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and related technical and design documents — and mentor teammates to build the same skill
  • Fabricate by cutting, burning, straightening, and welding a range of metals
  • Maintain material traceability through weld mapping and record keeping on complex weldments
  • Use calibrated precision instruments, including a Faro Arm, to hold fabrication tolerances
  • Complete quality verifications, weld records, and build records as required
  • Identify and recommend product and process improvements
  • Document work processes and progress, and use a basic MRP system for daily tasks

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated proficiency with TIG welding (GTAW)
  • 5+ years of welding experience, or demonstrated equivalent through passing certification tests
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings for tolerances, fit, and process control
  • Experience with stainless steel and/or aluminum preferred
  • Certification testing to these minimums:
  • Test position: 3G or greater
  • Joint type: complete joint penetration
  • Material: stainless steel
  • Processes: TIG and MIG

Education substitutions: an Associate of Arts in Welding Technology may substitute for two years of experience; an accredited trade or vocational welding certificate may substitute for one year.

Good to Know

You'll work around moving machinery, vibration, and loud noise, and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals, along with the risk of electrical shock. Some duties involve working at heights, outdoors, or in extreme temperatures. Job-appropriate PPE is required at all times. Weeks over 40 hours may be needed to meet business objectives. Other duties as assigned.
