Nursing Assistant (Non-Certified)/Clinical Secretary

A Brief Overview

The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant is responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

What you will do

  • Answer telephone and patient call bells in a prompt and appropriate manner

  • Update patient electronic medical records (EMR) timely using appropriate sources, ensuring accurate, complete, and consistent documentation

  • Coordinate patient movement, where and when appropriate, including transfers, transports, referrals, and consults, ensuring appropriate communication and documentation.

  • Communicate changes in patient’s conditions to nurse and provider where appropriate

  • Maintain a consistently clean and well-organized work area

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required with the successful completion of Medical Terminology course and a passing score on the examination. Or may substitute 2 years previous specific work experience with medical terminology for the Medical Terminology course certification. (Example: HIM Tech, Paralegal, Medical Biller, Medical Secretary, Patient Access Representative) Required or

  • High School Diploma with the completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • One year Clerical experience or Nursing Assistant experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant - National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Preferred

  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years is Required
