Electrical Engineer – Controls & Automation (Siemens TIA Portal PLC)

Greater Atlanta, GA - Relocation Available

Salary Range: $100,000–$110,000 + 5% Annual Bonus

Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire | On-Site

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer – Controls & Automation to serve as the primary controls and automation engineer at a high-volume copper rod mill in the Greater Atlanta area.

This is a hands-on engineering role supporting a 24/7 foundry-style manufacturing operation. The engineer will serve as the primary/sole on-site controls resource, spending 70%+ of their time on the plant floor troubleshooting production equipment, programming Siemens PLCs, commissioning automation systems, and leading controls improvement projects.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 3 years of hands-on controls/automation experience in manufacturing, and direct Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on controls and automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  3. Hands-on Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming experience is required.
  4. Demonstrated experience writing, modifying, debugging, and troubleshooting Siemens PLC programs.
  5. Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
  6. Experience with industrial automation, PLCs, HMIs, and electrical control systems.
  7. Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment downtime and modify PLC logic to restore production.
  8. Ability to work independently as the primary/sole controls and automation resource.
  9. Willingness and ability to spend 70%+ of the workday on the manufacturing floor.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a hot, heavy industrial/foundry environment.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  1. Fanuc robotics experience, including troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, or robot reactivation.
  2. AutoCAD experience with electrical schematics and control panel design.
  3. Industrial power distribution experience.
  4. SAP or comparable ERP experience.
  5. Project management experience or PMP certification.
  6. Experience commissioning new manufacturing equipment or major controls upgrades.
  7. Continuous improvement experience involving automation, controls, equipment reliability, or productivity.
  8. Experience working directly with maintenance technicians and production operators.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the plant’s primary Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming and controls expert.
  2. Develop, modify, debug, and troubleshoot Siemens PLC programs.
  3. Troubleshoot Siemens PLC, HMI, and automated control systems to minimize production downtime.
  4. Diagnose controls-related equipment failures and implement corrective programming solutions.
  5. Commission new and modified automation and manufacturing equipment.
  6. Partner directly with maintenance technicians and operators to resolve equipment issues.
  7. Lead controls and automation continuous-improvement projects.
  8. Manage controls projects from initial troubleshooting and design through implementation and commissioning.
  9. Support the reactivation and integration of Fanuc robotic equipment.
  10. Maintain electrical schematics, controls documentation, and automation system records.
  11. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and process efficiency.
  12. Provide technical guidance and controls expertise to plant leadership and maintenance personnel.
Schedule

Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Flexibility required for occasional extended hours when production or critical equipment issues require engineering support. Minimal travel expected.
