Job description

SUMMARY: Provide pipefitting for facilities and infrastructure at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Installs or repairs water, steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefittings. Work involves most of the following: Laying out work and measuring to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications; cutting various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch or pipe-cutting machines; threading pipe with stocks and dies, bending pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines; assembling pipe with couplings and fastening pipe to hangers; making standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required; and making standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications. Perform a variety of maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings.
QUALIFICATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Must have at least 5 years commercial/industrial experience as a pipefitter, acquired through training and/or experience under a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Ability to use good judgement and common sense when performing job functions. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Must be punctual and be able to work under stressful conditions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Works with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Respond to service calls within the allowable time frame
  • Participation in Quality Control and Safety Program
  • Must adhere to the Lockout/Tagout Program
  • Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utilities, such as chilled water, hot water, steam, condensate, and condenser water systems
  • Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly, which involves interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other guides
  • Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine
  • Uses and maintains tools, such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threads, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, welding equipment, braising equipment
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned by supervisor

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Must maintain a valid Ohio driver's license. Must be able to obtain and maintain access to government facilities through government background and badging processes. Current American Welding Society Certified Welder certification preferred, but not required.
