Job description

Job Summary

The Screw Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring screw machines to produce precision metal components that meet quality, safety, and production requirements. This role ensures efficient machine operation, maintains part quality, and follows established manufacturing procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate screw machines (Acme‑Gridley and New Britain) according to job travelers, blueprints, and setup sheets

  • Load raw material, tools, and fixtures into machines

  • Monitor machine performance and make basic adjustments to maintain part quality and production rates

  • Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, thread gages, and comparators

  • Perform in‑process inspections

  • Identify and troubleshoot common machine or tooling issues and notify supervision when issues exceed scope

  • Perform routine machine maintenance such as lubrication, chip removal, and tool changes

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area

  • Accurately complete production and quality documentation

  • Work collaboratively with setup personnel, quality, and maintenance teams to meet production goals

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Previous experience operating screw machines or similar metalworking equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and basic GD&T
