Shop Technician / Inspection Technician
Job Summary:
The Shop Technician / Inspection Technician is responsible for assisting with the inspection, handling, preparation, and maintenance of oilfield tubulars, tools, and related equipment within the pipe yard and machine shop. This role supports daily shop operations by performing equipment inspections, maintaining organization of inventory, assisting machinists and technicians, and ensuring all equipment meets company and industry quality standards.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in an industrial outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the inspection of oilfield tubulars, downhole tools, and equipment for damage, wear, and compliance with company standards
  • Perform visual inspections, measurements, and documentation of pipe, threads, and equipment condition
  • Clean, prep, and stage pipe and tools for machining, repair, shipment, or field deployment
  • Assist machinists and shop personnel with basic shop tasks and equipment handling
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely (if certified)
  • Maintain organized pipe yard and shop areas, including proper storage and labeling of materials
  • Assist with thread cleaning, thread protection installation, and tool preparation
  • Follow quality control procedures and inspection checklists
  • Complete required inspection reports, job paperwork, and documentation
  • Support loading and unloading of trucks and pipe racks
  • Maintain shop equipment and tools in clean and operational condition
  • Follow all company safety policies and oilfield safety standards

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work in industrial shop and outdoor yard environments
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical labor
  • Ability to read measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous oilfield, pipe yard, or machine shop experience
  • Experience with tubular inspection or thread inspection
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification
  • Familiarity with OCTG, drill pipe, or downhole tools
  • Basic knowledge of machine shop operations
