JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Provides perioperative Thoracic Surgery services to The Queenโ€™s Medical Center (QMC) patients.
 
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Surgically evaluates and treats patients who require the services provided by a Thoracic Surgeon.
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge and clinical skills in order to keep abreast of new techniques and procedures in the field of Cardiovascular Surgery with primary focus on Thoracic Surgery.
  • Works to advance the Robotic Thoracic Surgery Program.
  • Provides Thoracic Surgery consults of unassigned patients as needed.
  • Participates in the first assist program for both Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery cases.
  • Makes rounds on Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (TCV) patients in accordance with expectations of the Vice President or his/her designee.
  • Provides clear instructions and explanations regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow-up to patients and their respective family members.
  • Provides communication regarding patient care issues to referring physicians in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in the Department of Cardiovascular Disease departmentโ€™s on-call schedule for thoracic surgery.
  • Attends departmental physician staff meetings, monthly morbidity and mortality, quality assurance, and other departmental meetings deemed appropriate by the Department Chief.
  • Meets or exceeds The Society of Thoracic Surgery Database/report card mean as a benchmark.
  • Participates in the Queenโ€™s Cancer Center clinical programs as appropriate to the field of Thoracic Surgery.
  • Participates in Accountable Clinical Management (ACM) activities as appropriate.
  • Under guidance of the Medical Director, learns surgical techniques and adopts best practices in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
  
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: 
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certification in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or AOA. If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
 
EXPERIENCE: 
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC Medical Staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction. 
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
  
 Salary clinical base: $575,612.00
