Job description

Locum Tenens | Physician – Thoracic Surgery

Seeking a Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeon to provide backup coverage for an established thoracic surgery team. Coverage includes hospital-based acute care with surgical responsibilities and call support.

Practice Highlights
  • Hospital-based thoracic surgery coverage
  • Backup support for an existing team of providers
  • Average 2–3 cases per day
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • 21 operating rooms available
  • Hemodialysis access on site
  • OR, ICU, and hospitalist support
  • EMR: Epic
Schedule & Coverage

Current open dates (additional dates to follow):

  • Jan 16 (5:00 PM) – Jan 19 (7:00 AM)
  • Feb 6 (5:00 PM) – Feb 9 (7:00 AM)
  • Call schedule: TBD
  • Call ratio: As needed
  • Coverage spans multiple dates in 2026

  • Chest wall tumors and reconstruction
  • Pleural effusion and pneumothorax
  • Rib fractures and plating
  • Mediastinal masses and mesothelioma
  • Tracheal stenosis and tracheostomy
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome and thymomas
  • Diaphragm plication and hernias
Credentialing
  • Estimated timeframe: ~120 days
Candidate Requirements
  • Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery – REQUIRED
  • Active Virginia license (no exceptions) – REQUIRED
  • BLS & ACLS – REQUIRED
  • Must be local (travel limited to mileage reimbursement) – REQUIRED
  • Ability to submit a flat 24-hour coverage rate – REQUIRED
