As the Manager, Indirect Tax, you will lead day-to-day indirect tax operations across C Spire's Wireless, Fiber, and Business Technologies lines of business. You will oversee the company's full indirect tax compliance portfolio-including sales and use tax, property tax, franchise fees, business licenses, and unclaimed property-while ensuring operational excellence, compliance accuracy, and strong internal controls. This role will serve as a key leader within the tax organization by managing recurring compliance cycles, improving automation and reporting capabilities, mentoring team members, and partnering across the business to mitigate risk and support growth.

Responsibilities:

Inall ofyour duties, you will have a relentless, obsessive, yet disciplined approach tomanageall details to perfection anddeliverdesired results.

Lead day-to-day indirect tax operations and manage the compliance calendar across all applicable tax types, including month-end close activities, return cycles, reconciliations, and annual compliance deadlines.

Review month-end indirect tax calculations and journal entries to ensure proper documentation, approvals, and compliance with internal control standards.

Oversee reconciliation activities for all indirect tax liability accounts, including sales tax, use tax, 911 fees, excise tax, franchise fees, and unclaimed property accounts.

Investigate and resolve reconciling items while ensuringaccuratefinancial reporting andtimelyissue resolution.

Manage transactional tax calculation processes related to inventory issuance, non-PO invoices, self-assessed use tax reviews, and correction processes.

Oversee data preparation and submissions to third-party compliance vendors while reviewing return packages, resolving variances, and managing agency correspondence.

Perform monthly reconciliations between third-party filing reports and Vertex calculation outputs across all lines of business to ensure filing accuracy.

Validatebilling data feeds into tax systems and partner with internal teams to resolve data integrity issues.

Maintainindirect tax configuration and master data, including tax coding assignments, billing grid updates, rate updates, and rule maintenance.

Oversee exemption certificate management, including collection, validation, renewals, resale certificates, customer exemptions, and tax refund support.

Manage property tax compliance activities including rendition filings, valuation reviews, appeals, and payment coordination across multiplejurisdictions.

Oversee franchise fee compliance processes including calculations, workpapers, filings, payments, notice management, and forecasting support.

Manage unclaimed property compliance activities, including dormancy tracking, data aggregation, filing preparation, and documentation retention.

Support indirect tax audits by managing data requests, preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with external advisors when necessary.

Lead remediation efforts resulting from audit findings and strengthen internal controls to reduce future compliance risk.

Conduct tax research and technical analysis related to indirect tax matters while escalating complex issues whenappropriate.

Supervise indirect tax team members by providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, performance management, and technical development.

Drive automation initiatives, process improvements, and workflow optimization across the indirect tax function.

Develop andmaintainstandard operating procedures while ensuring team members are trainedonupdated processes.

Monitorlegislative and regulatory developments that mayimpactC Spire's tax obligations and communicate business implications to leadership.

In addition to that, werequire:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

5-7 years of indirect tax experience.

Multi-state salesand usetax compliance experience.

Property tax compliance experience.

Experience managing outsourced compliance vendors and overseeing data quality and variance analysis.

Previousleadership or supervisory experience.

Strong experience managing recurring deadlines in high-volume compliance environments.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity with internalcontrolsframeworks and compliance documentation standards.

We will give special consideration to candidates who have:

Telecommunications, utility, or communications industry experience.

CPA license or CMI designation.

Experience with Vertex O Series and/or Vertex L Series.

Business license compliance experience.

Unclaimed property compliance experience.

Experience with Oracle Fusion or comparable ERP systems.

Experience with data analytics, automation, or tax technology tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or similar platforms.
