Job description


JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Control Dimensional Inspector (CMM Inspector) performs advanced visual, dimensional, functional, and documentation inspections using CMMs, portable metrology systems, and other advanced inspection technologies. The inspector serves as a technical subject matter expert, mentors other inspectors, and ensures compliance with engineering specifications, customer requirements, NOV quality standards, and applicable industry standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform complex visual, dimensional, functional, and documentation inspections on components, assemblies, and finished products.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality plans, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Conduct receiving, in-process, source, final, and customer witness inspections.
  • Generate, review, and maintain inspection records, reports, and quality documentation
  • Initiate and coordinate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause investigations.
  • Support QC Supervisor, QC Manager, Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Operations teams in resolving quality issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Quality Control Inspectors Levels I-IV.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection processes, metrology systems, and quality performance.
  • Ensure compliance with NOV Quality Management System requirements and all HSE policies and procedures

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program, validate, execute, and optimize Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs.
  • Develop and maintain CMM models utilizing CAD and Pro-E/Creo engineering models.
  • Perform advanced dimensional inspections using: Hexagon CMM, FARO Arm, Romer Arm, Portable CMM Systems, 3D Optical Scanners, Laser Scanning Equipment, Automated Inspection Systems
  • Develop inspection strategies for complex geometries and critical product features.
  • Analyze dimensional data and provide technical recommendations for product acceptance or disposition.
  • Maintain inspection programs, measurement databases, and metrology records.
  • Support implementation and validation of new inspection technologies and automation systems.
  • Maintain metrology equipment and ensure compliance with calibration requirements.
  • Support customer, ABS, DNV, and third-party witness inspections when required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical Degree, Trade School Certification, or equivalent experience
  • Preferred ASQ CMI (Certified Mechanical Inspector) or equivalent certificates
  • Minimum 2 year of CMM, Romer Arm, Faro Arm, MetraSCAN 3D™ optical CMM scanner, and any automatic inspection equipment experience in programming and inspection
  • Minimum 5 years of dimensional inspection and metrology experience in manufacturing, oil & gas, aerospace, defense, or related industries
  • Prior CMM, programming experience and ability to develop part geometrical setup structures for CMM layouts
  • Prior experience in programming & inspection using a Hexagon CMM or similar equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, material specifications and requirements.
  • Ability to pass dimensional inspection training and testing.
  • Possess knowledge of precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of ABS and DNV requirements for drilling equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of API 6A, 8C, 16A, 16c, 16D, 16F, 16RCD, ATEX, IECEx requirements is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn different software programs.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, as required.
  • Expert understanding of dimensional inspection and metrology principles.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train inspectors and technicians.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • NDE Certifications or experience in: Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and or Visual Testing (VT)
    • Experience supporting customer audits, regulatory audits, and third-party inspections.
