Principal Structural Engineer

Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power Americas is a major power generation equipment and storage solutions provider for the energy industry. Our goal is to empower our customers to affordably and reliably combat climate change and advance human prosperity using our technologies. Our products include advanced class gas turbines, hydrogen gas turbines, lithium ion and flow battery technologies, digital solutions, and renewable energy project development.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to manage the structural engineering work of SCR gas duct systems for power applications. The Principal Structural Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design and analysis of all ductwork and structural components required for an SCR system.

The Principal Structural Engineer will lead a sub-team of engineers and technical staff to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform, review, comment, and approve engineering documentation and structural analysis for SCR gas duct system
  • Collect, review, interpret, and integrate design requirements from customers, suppliers, and the parent company
  • Prepare and review engineering technical requirements, and material estimates to support the overall project proposal and bid strategy
  • Engage in technical conversations with customers on behalf of the Civil/Structural Team to address project needs and provide expert guidance
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders, including Supply Chain Management, Quality Controls, Construction Services, Project Management, and other Engineering Teams in prioritizing and resolving any issues related to the SCR system
  • Enhance structural design standards for equipment skid base designs and pipe support systems
  • Coordinate with third party consultants when outsourcing is necessary
  • Collaborate closely with steel manufacturers to support production processes and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise
  • Prepare and review budgets, bids, technical requirements, and commercial requirements
  • As assigned, lead periodic reviews of the civil/structural team's execution schedule, expedited engineering activities, escalated critical needs, and reported on the technical delivery status of the project
  • Train designated engineers in performing structural analysis, preparing calculation reports, and applying sound engineering judgment
  • Monitor and assess the workload related to SCR system scope of work, proactively communicating with the team manager to balance assignments and maintain efficiency
  • Ensure arrangement and foundation interface information meets requirements
  • Interface with internal and external teams to ensure that design interface information for SCR system is accurate and properly accounted for 

Requirement

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Civil Engineering and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required. Minimum of 20 years of experience in a related engineering field. Experience with SCR systems required. Familiarity with high temperature ductwork design for power plants and boiler applications and support structures desired. Capable of performing structural dynamics analysis for rotating equipment.
  • Strong familiarity with ASCE 7, IBC, AISC, ACI, API, AWS, ANSI, ASME, ASTM, OSHA, and industry standards. Familiarity with DIN 4024, ISO 1940 is a plus.
  • Travel – up to 10%. May include occasional oversees travel as needed by the business

 

 

Software Experience Desired

      • Smart Plant 3D/ Tekla/ Revit: Familiarity with concepts fundamental to creation of integrated design in a 3D environment and extraction of technical detail is desired.
      • STAAD.Pro: Proficiency is required. SAP2000 and GT STRUDL: Experience is a plus.
      • AutoCAD/ MicroStation: Familiarity with 2D CAD drafting tools is desired.
