The Opportunity

We are looking for a Chief Engineer, Boiler room for our Scarborough facility.ย  Reporting to the Mill Manager, this position provides critical operational leadership to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient functioning of all boiler house systems. This includes maintaining essential equipment such as boilers, air compressors, fluidized bed units, heating systems, and fireprotection systems.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance, installation, improvement, and budgeting of all boiler house systems, including boilers, the fluidized bed boiler, air compressors, steam heaters (including glycol systems), and fireprotection equipment
  • Ensure full compliance with TSSA requirements, environmental legislation, and all other applicable standards and regulations
  • Maintain all boiler plant operations and procedures in alignment with factory specifications and regulatory guidelines
  • Lead, supervise, and develop Shift Engineers to support operational excellence
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment such as steam heaters, boilers, compressed air systems, boiler water treatment equipment, glycol heating systems, the fluidized bed unit, and fireprotection systems
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency
  • Oversee and coordinate contractors, and provide training to team members as required
  • Actively participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team and First Aid Team
  • Manage the daily operation and maintenance of steam boilers, screw air compressors, as well as the solid fuelburning fluidized bed boiler
  • Oversee maintenance of steam and condensate systems for the steam dryer cans in the Liner Mill, including TSSA certification requirements

What You Bring

  • TSSAapproved 1st Class Operating Engineer Certification
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive operating experience
  • Several years of supervisory and management experience, ideally in a unionized environment
  • Deep knowledge of boiler operations, water treatment, compressed air systems, glycol heating, and fluidized bed units
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve complex boiler house equipment
  • Strong ability to lead, supervise, coach, and develop engineering staff
  • Skilled in managing budgets, planning maintenance, and coordinating contractors
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven success working collaboratively as a team player
  • Comfortable using email systems, MS Word, Excel, and computerized maintenance, purchasing, and technical software related to boiler systems
