As a Stationary Engineer, you'll play a key role in keeping critical facility systems safe, reliable, and running smoothly. You'll inspect, operate, and maintain high-pressure steam, HVAC, emergency power, and fire protection systems.

Your day-to-day work will include monitoring utility systems, maintaining boilers, tracking Central Utility Plant logs, identifying trends to prevent issues, and inspecting systems such as bulk oxygen tanks and chillers. You'll also have opportunities to grow your skills and advance your career.

A caregiver in this positionworksvarying shifts. Shifts will vary from2ndand 3rdshift. Rotating days each week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Inspect,operateand maintaina highpressure/steam powerhouse, HVAC systems and emergency power and fire protection systems.

  • Monitor andmaintainHVAC-relatedsourceand distribution equipment such as steam, chilled water, water chemistry, humidification, air handling, etc.

  • Monitor and respond to all fire protection systems.

  • Respond to all emergency calls.

  • Test andmonitoremergency generators and transfer equipment.

  • Work at other Cleveland Clinic facilities as needed.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Current Third-Class Stationary Engineer License or higher from the State of Ohio, or an equivalent state recognized certification

  • Valid Stationary Engineer's License issued by another state is acceptable; however, continued employment requires either approval for license transfer by the State of Ohio or successful completion of the Ohio licensure exam within 12 months of hire

  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: steam distribution systems, condensate systems, large chiller systems, water distribution systems, coolingtowersand air handling systems

  • Mustpossessworking knowledge of blueprints and electrical schematics

  • Military experience such as Machinists Mate (MM), Electric Power Production (3E0X2) or similar will be considered

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • 2 years of experience as a stationary engineer or industrial/utility power plant operator (time spent in a Stationary Engineer Apprenticeship Program may be applied toward this preferred experience)

  • Knowledge of fire protection equipment, building automation equipment, emergency generators, and HVAC equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to be mobile for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Ability to move/transport items weighing up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to move/transport equipment weighing up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to move/transport carts weighing up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)
  • Ability to inspect equipment
  • Ability to install, repair and maintain systems, equipment, fixtures and/or structures
  • Ability to distinguish color
  • Ability to climb ladders

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $33.46

Maximum hourly: $51.03
