Job purpose

To descale coil and coat steel wire/rod so it can be annealed or processed in wire draw machines.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coil Safety at O&K American; read, understand, and follow it
  • Read, understand, and follow all production procedures for CH.
  • Loader: Follow schedule for wire drawing, cleaning house, shipping, and annealing.
  • Check all tags for grade, production and coil number, heat #, scanning tags.
  • Inspection of coil coatings.
  • Visual inspection of coils (coating, surface defects, packaging)
  • Place coil on wire drawing stands.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Cleaning out tanks.
  • Keep area clean and organized following 5s program.
  • Follow safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Overhead crane experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Working conditions

  • Regularly lifting, traveling up and down stairs, sitting, squatting and bending in various positions - traveling in and out of work areas, walking and being on your feet for a majority of the work day.
  • Daily exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and odors. Physical exertion is required.
  • The employee requires standing, bending and twisting for scheduled shift.
  • Requires work in some confined space areas.
  • Requires work in a non-air-conditioned area during the summer months.
  • Vision protection, metatarsal steel-toed shoes, hard hat, ear plugs, and high visibility clothing is required.

Physical requirements

  • Lift minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Bend and climb.
  • Able to see and hear.
  • Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
